Super-Baby!

Super-Baby®, the crime fighting baby based in Paso Robles, CA, takes a morning spin looking for bad guys to drool on until the police arrive.

Tireless in his efforts to clean up the streets, he only takes a break during his naptimes at 9am, noon and 4:30pm. :)

Low-key week for the Burjewski's

Both Kevin and I are off work this week (I'm also taking the first week of January off), so we are spending a lot of time hanging out with Cam and fooling around. Yesterday, Cam was doing a great job of standing up, with Kevin just there to provide some balance! We know its just a reflex, but its still pretty cool :)

Four-star General

Grammie sent some adorable outfits for Cam; here he is modeling his four-star general shirt (he loves it!)

Merry Christmas!!

Cameron hopes that Santa was good to everyone; Santa and all his grandparents were wonderful to him - lots of goodies but he really only cared about the blinking tree lights and the paper (which he tried to put right into his mouth). Thank you Grammie and Grampie, Grams, and Grandpa and Grandma Janice!

We wanted to share this lovely photo with everyone; for Christmas we decided to hire a wonderful photographer to get some photos of Cam while he's this little. As you all know, we tried to get a good photo, but it just wasn't happening.

Monyeen did an amazing job - the photos turned out so well, she added them to her online portfolio, #5 and #9 in the newborn/toddler section. She's already fielding comments about "the baby Michelin-man" :) We loved her work and all of the grandparents got photo #5 in dual frame with a cast of Cam's footprint. She does work up in the Bay area, so we're adding a link to our favourites section and will DEFINITELY be calling her again when Cam will actually *smile* for the camera! Unless Sarah or Moray want to come visit us and do a photo session - both of you take FANTASTIC photos of your children!!

Happy Holidays from the Burjeski's!

We hope that everyone has a wonderful Christmas Eve. Fingers crossed Santa is good to you!

Love,
Michelle, Kevin and Cameron

…But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."

The world's cutest elf :)

Cam also got "elfed", click here to see it!

Auntie Sherry came to visit

Auntie Sherry came to visit us this week for a couple of days from the Bay area. Cam looooooooved her - he had so much fun playing with her, there was lots of laughs, giggles and shrieks coming from the living room while I got caught up with end-of-year work stuff.

We loved having her visit; the dogs got some much needed attention (Charlie is still checking the doors in the house looking for her), plus she did a ton of cooking again and our fridge is full of yummy food for the next week (yay, no cooking for mommy!). Big kisses to Mr. Keogh for loaning her to us, and we'll keep an eye out for the invoice :)

It's a Christmas miracle…

Cam slept from 10:30pm to 6:30am last night!! He did stir at 4am but only because he'd pushed his blankets off, so after tucking him back in, he started snoring away. WOW!!! Of course, we know its not a pattern until it happens 3 or more times in a row, but we are just enjoying that it happened at all :)

Holy guacamole!

Cam slept for 7 hours straight last night!!! We were floored!! And thrilled to get so much sleep in one go :)

We are paying the piper, though; Cam's been off so far today, very cranky. He refused to go down for his morning nap at all, despite lots of yawning and rubbing his eyes. Currently he's down for his lunchtime nap (was totally exhausted) and hopefully will be his typical happy self when he wakes up. Raining cats and dogs so no walk this afternoon but Auntie Sherry is visiting and he'll have fun playing with her.

But we had to share the 7 HOURS OF SLEEP AT NIGHT - woohooo!!!!!

Cameron went on safari…

…this morning. After being attacked by a giraffe (see the scratch on the side of his cheek), he wrested the unwieldly giraffe down by the ear while a zebra, bunny and chicken looked on. He's a scrapper!! :)

After the safari…

Cam took a nap on his favourite pillow, our golden retriever Charlie, with his safari prize, the giraffe.

Sorry for the lack of photos this week...

Its been a hectic week with work and holiday shopping; trying to get all the gifts ordered online (after seeing how sick Grant and James have gotten, I don't want to take Cam out anywhere for people to breathe on him and make him sick!) and all the boxes shipped to the east coast. We will have time this weekend to get caught up :)

To tide you over, here is a photo from last week of Cam chewing on a new toy that's supposed to help him with brushing his teeth - when he gets teeth (still lots of drooling but no teeth :) ). We need to disguise the camera b/c he gets that wild look in his eye when we try to take his photo.

Chillin' on a Sunday morning

Cameron spent the morning reading about different shapes to broaden his horizons. He devoured the book on squares :)

Cameron's first Christmas ornament

Grandma Janice gave this to Cam back in October and it was the first ornament on the tree, as well as being Cam's first ornament. We think it kinda looks like him with the chubby red cheeks and blue eyes :)

Thanks Grandma Janice!!

Christmas tree a-huntin'

We went out today to get our Christmas tree during a dry spell in the midst of our first real winter storm here on the central coast of California. It was pretty cold (to us, although east coasters won't think 50° is cold) but Cam was a real trouper; he hung out (literally) in the Baby Bjorn from Auntie Trina and chilled with dad while we waited to get our tree. Cam wore his holiday Santa hat to get in the spirit of the day - he's not nuts about it because it keeps slipping down over his eyes :)

Bath time!

I'm not sure how we managed this, but Cam will be 3 months old on Monday (!!!) and we have not ever gotten any photos of him at bathtime! We both give Cam a bath as part of his nightly "winddown" routine and don't usually have a camera in there. Tonight we finally had an opportunity to snap a picture.

Bonanza!!

Cam loves to be bounced on our legs and have the theme to "Bonanza" sung to him. Why, we have no idea but he laughs and giggles and it has brought him back from the brink of a meltdown a few times....gotta love the power of Bonanza!

Now, if we can just find a cowboy hat his size and he'd look just like Hoss Cartwright :)

Sweating for the Youngies

Cam had fun playing under the gym today - he's doing great holding up his head and trying to do pushups. Kevin wants me to note that when Cam kicks his legs while on his stomach, he farts. Its pretty funny and awfully consistent! He's starting to rollover in his crib, so we'll try to catch that on video to share :) So nice to have a photo where his eyes aren't glowing red from the flash!!

Oh, and his hair is coming back; looks like he might end up a tow-head like mommy and daddy were.

Cam the Moose-Elf :)

We went down to LA yesterday for Kevin's company holiday party at his boss' home in Tustin. The trip down was ok; Cam got within a half hour of Grandpa and Grandma Janice's house before having a meltdown. It was a rough afternoon but all three of us went to the party and Cam did super there, with the exception of when Sue (Kevin's boss's wife) tried to bring Cam into the dining room to meet the 40 or so people in there - waaaaaaaay too much for the little guy. But he loved being held by Sue (she did this cool semi-squat rocking that calmed him right down when he freaked out after seeing all the people) and was generally a very good boy, falling asleep on one of the bed's there for an hour and a half.

He slept pretty well at Grandpa and Grandma's, with the exception of accidentally punching daddy in the eye during the night :) No permanent damage! We had this cute Santa outfit for Cam to wear to the holiday party, but he ended up wearing his holiday Moose outfit with his Santa hat. We might try to get him into the Santa outfit and get a photo to share :) Aren't the moose-feet adorable?!?

We had a GREAT trip back home; Cam slept for the first hour, woke up at 10:30 so we pulled over, changed his diaper, fed him and played with him for about 45 mins, to let him out of his car seat for a while. He was such a good boy while we stopped, we got the last photo here. We got back on the road around 11:15 and got home around 2pm with no other stops :) Little guy did so awesome today!!

He was happy to be home; when Kevin took him out of the carseat and walked into the house, at first his eyes were all wild, but then he recognized where he was, totally relaxed and smiled this huge grin. We all had fun but were glad to be home. However, yet another weekend goes by without our Christmas lights going up!

Cops and Robbers

Cam and mommy were playing cops and robbers the other night; this was Cam's take on being a robber :)

Sitting upright! (kinda)

We tried out the Bumbo chair today since we checked out the box and realized it only fits kids up to 22lbs (we think Cam is about 18lbs now). Cam is still working on his head control but I think he was most surprised to be sitting upright without mommy or daddy holding him up! He's got his burpie, though!

Nice glowing eyes on our vampire baby :)

Doesn't he look like a convict in his Ralph Lauren outfit?? I wonder if that's intentional?!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Cam had a great time over at Uncle Steve and Aunt Mary Ann's new home for Thanksgiving dinner. Grandpa held him and got some smiles, but Cam had the most fun with his cousin Loretta who got more smiles and coos from him than everyone else combined :) He was completely fascinated by watching her and she did a great job of playing with him as well as managing not to get her hair pulled!!

Photo tips from Moray - The Good

My good friend Moray in Scotland very kindly gave us some tips on how to get a great photo of Cam. Sadly, this is only proof you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink! We're getting closer, though.

Photo tips from Moray - The Bad

This just cracks us up; the look on his face!!!

Photo tips from Moray - The Ugly

I swear the baby isn't drunk in this photo!! :) Poor little guy; he'll be horrified by this when he's 16. (heck, when he's 10!)

Too many things happening at once here; he was sliding down the pillow we'd put on the couch for him to lean on, plus he was in mid-blink and the backdrop I'd put on the back of the couch started to slip.

Photos like this make me really want to contact a professional photographer to get a decent shot of Cameron :)

Visit to the Bay Area

We drove up to Los Gatos/San Jose today and got to visit with a bunch of people; Juliann, Sarah and Grant and also Carla (who is still promising to teach Cam to ride in a few years!). Cam did great in the car; slept almost the entire way up to San Jose (2.25 hrs), only protesting when he had a very wet diaper - as soon as that was changed, he went right back to sleep. Our fancy-schmancy car seat cover seems to be doing the trick!!

It was so nice for Cam to finally meet some of the people we've told him about, plus he and Grant seemed to get along; they both stared at each other like they'd never seen a baby before :)

The photo was taken while we were waiting to meet Sarah at her office, just before -seconds!- a big blowout. LOL - our trips up north almost always seem to contain a blowout!! Wish he could do those at home where we're better equipted for them!

ps: note the not one, but TWO burpies :)

Chillin' on a Sunday afternoon

Cam was hanging out, watching mommy fold laundry and trying to eat a pesky giant firefly (don't worry, its really a toy) that landed in his stroller on Sunday afternoon. After he tussled with the firefly for a while, he took the dogs for a walk around the neighbourhood.

Big day for the little man!! :)

Daddy's favourite outfit

Daddy found this just after Cam was born and had to get it for him. True on so many levels!! Cam thinks its pretty funny too. Click here to get one.

This would probably be funnier if we had Cam listening to Kevin's iPod (which he does - he enjoys Queen's "Bicycle Race" - mommy sings it to him when he's gassy and she does the bicycle with his legs to help him fart :) )

Thumb-sucking success!!!

After weeks of trying, Cam has figured out how to stick out his thumb in order to suck on it. Now he just needs to learn to close his fingers into a fist and not poke himself in the eye :)

The "Burpie" - part duex

Yep, this boy loves his burpie :) Not sure how it ended up over his face, but he slept like this for a good hour on Sunday afternoon.

Dinner@Uncle Steve and Aunt Mary Ann's house

We were all invited over for dinner to Uncle Steve and Aunt Mary Ann's house on Saturday night. Cam had a great time being held by everyone (especially in front of the fireplace) and had fun playing with his cousin Loretta.

ps Cam was two months old yesterday!

The "Burpie"

Cam has learned how to grab at items and loves to hold stuff in his fists. He's pretty indiscriminate - he'll grab your shirt when you're holding him, loves to grab (and not let go of) my hair when its not in a ponytail (ow!!) and has also started grabbing the little burp cloths off our shoulders and carrying them around with him, like a favourite blankie. Now he wants to have one in his hands when he goes to sleep! The last couple of times he hasn't settled right down for a nap, we hand him one of those and he's out within a minute.

Cameron's Grandma on the west coast crocheted 2 beautiful blankets for him, his east coast Grammie has bought him a plethora of cute flannel blankets w/dinosaurs embroidered on them, my godmother (his great-aunt Kathy) and cousin Chrissy crocheted him an adorable blanket, plus Chrissy made him a gorgeous quilt and one of my favourite clients had a blanket embroidered with his name and birthdate on it that's one of our favourites - the point being, there are some much nicer blankies to choose from!!

But no - Cam loves the $1 burp cloth...I realize this is just the beginning of him asserting his independence :)

The elusive "great" photo

Photographers make it look so easy to get a great photo of a baby; its not!! Of course, Cam is learning to become a more cooperative subject: he used to hate the flash but he's better about it now.

Back in art school I was so busy taking all the required classes for my graphic design degree I didn't take any of the "fun" classes, like glass-blowing, jewelry making or photography - I figured there was plenty of time for that once I had my degree. Ha! So now I'm wishing I'd taken at least one photography class so that I could set up shots better.

Anyway, this is the latest in the quest for the adorable baby picture :) His hair doesn't look this red in person, but his cheeks really are this chubby. The darling little outfit is from his Grammie on the east coast. Oh, and he really does have a back and legs; we were just trying to get all the backgound ickiness out of there with his white blankie :) And he's doing so great holding up his head from his tummy these days!!

Sigh; we're getting there! One of these days....

Cam getting changed after a blowout

There's not much to say here, he just had this hysterical look on his face that we managed to capture with the camera. :)

2 month checkup: 98th percentile :)

Cameron had his 2 month checkup today with Dr. Nave and is continuing to grow leaps and bounds. 15lb 14oz (our scale at home was pretty close) and 25" long. Overall in the 98th percentile for everything. This again explains why he doesn't fit into all the cute clothes his Grandma Ruthie on the east coast just got him :) Our giant, not-quite-2-month-old baby is already in clothing for 6 month olds, lol.

He did have to get 4 (!!!) shots and that went as well as could be expected; no photos of THAT momentous occasion (it was horrible to watch; poor little guy just shrieked).

He's ok now, taking a late afternoon nap while he waits for mom to stop working and play with him :)

Cameron's friend Grant

A few weeks after Cam was born, our good friends Charles and Sarah had their second son (he was early - lucky them!!), Grant. He joined them and big brother James and his dog, yellow lab Whiskey. Sarah and I have rebonded over all kinds of fun "mom" stuff and while the boys haven't met yet, we're both sure they are going to be good friends! Here is a link to their blog. (Evelyn: you and Garrett are next! :) )

Diapers sent to your door!

Cam has always been pretty fussy about having a wet diaper; when he's in a bad mood, just a teaspoon full will send him over the edge (poo, on the other hand, he'll sit in happily). So we go through diapers (trying not to think about the landfills!). I found this site in Parenting magazine, along with a coupon for $10 off the first purchase (Parenting6 or Parenting7 is the coupon code), PLUS they have free shipping on any purchase over $50. The prices are good and not having to go out to get diapers is WONDERFUL :)

The first November post!

Today Cam is 8 weeks old (already, holy cow!) and unofficially 16lbs (we weighed him here at home with our scale). We have a pediatrician appointment on Thursday, so we'll share the "real" weight then! He's sleeping more and more at night (hooray!) and lots of fun during the day; cooing, smiling, laughing and, occasionally, yelling loudly to let us know he has a wet diaper or is ready for a nap. His personality is definitely starting to show; he's just as stubborn as mom and dad!

We took a trip up to San Jose yesterday to see Auntie Sherry and also for Cam to meet Leah. He did great in the car; only got upset just outside of San Jose b/c it turned out he had a blowout. Otherwise, the trip went well. We didn't get any photos of Cam with Leah b/c it was almost dark, but we'll go up again soon. Leah was definitely interested in sniffing both Cam and Kevin; I'm sure she recognizes that Cam belongs to us :) (not because we had treats).

BTW - I think the sheepskin cover we got for Cam's carseat was a good purchase; even though it got into the low-mid 80s yesterday, he didn't overheat in the carseat like he usually does.

Here is a link to Ba-Ba Seatskins in case anyone else has this problem too. The man that owns this company is super nice; he got our cover to us while in the midst of all the fires down in Southern CA! The cover was a bit expensive but totally worth it since Cam is now comfortable and not drenched in sweat every time we take him out in the car. I think shipping was free too and in CA, we got it the next day.

Guess what Cam was for Halloween...

I saw this while I was pregnant and for some crazy reason bought the 3-6 month size; mother's instincts? Cam barely fit into it but he made a fantastic miniature version of my horse, Leah, including her bum leg :)

Daddy and Cam playing with mirrors

Cam has discovered mirrors and loves to stare at himself. He does have a limit and when he's had enough, the yelling starts :)

Kevin was trying out the baby carrier (Cam is getting awfully heavy to carry around all the time in our arms) and Cam spotted himself in the mirror. THEN he spotted daddy in the mirror and lots of cooing ensued. Pretty darn cute; wish I'd had the video feature on!!

Just for Auntie Trina :)

I swore up and down Cam would never sleep in bed with us. I was wrong! Here he is lounging around. For some reason, he does sleep extra peacefully when in bed with us; doesn't thrash around as much as he does in his crib (he's trying hard to suck on his thumb but doesn't a) realize his hands are his and, b) know how to keep his thumb out without his fingers poking his eye! Ah, the travails of infant-hood :)

The first smile!!

Everyone tells you that its gas, but I'm positive Cam has been smiling at us since he was about 3 weeks old...it took forever to get a photo of it b/c he hated the flash on the camera, but Auntie Trina finally caught his grin digitally while she was visiting. And he's smiling at mommy in this picture (for once! he smiled at daddy first)

Auntie Trina visits

Cam's Auntie Trina from Vermont came to visit us for almost a week. Unfortunately her trip out was pretty miserable (her flight was delayed and she missed her connection in Newark to San Jose, then had to stay overnight in Newark along with tons of other displaced travellers) and she arrived in the middle of our first rain storm of the winter on October 12, but it was all uphill from there. :)

Mostly she hung out with all of us, getting to know her new nephew (and giving mom and dad a much needed break - she even changed diapers!), as well as cooking some fabulous meals for everyone. A big thanks to Sue Shaw, Trina's mother-in-law, for sharing her fantastic meatloaf recipe - a new family staple!

4 week checkup; a-ok!

We met with our new pediatrican, Dr. Nave, in Templeton (only 10 minutes from the house, much closer than mom's HMO up in San Jose) today for Cam's 4 week checkup. It went pretty well; Cam didn't like being naked in the cold room to get weighed but once he got re-dressed he did great. Cam's weight gain was awesome: 13lb 7 ounces. Since he lost 11 ounces the first day he was born, he regained that, plus almost 4lbs on his birth weight in 4 weeks! Totally explained why he didn't fit into newborn clothing anymore. His length increased almost 2" to 23-3/4". Both Kevin and I are hoping he'll eventually be a tall guy.

Four Week Old Stats
13lb 7oz
23.75"

Kevin's sister-in-law saw Dr. Nave at a St. Rose event (their kids both attend this school) and mentioned Cam was a new client; at first Dr. Nave didn't know who she was talking about but then she realized MA was talking about "the big baby" she'd seen that week :)

Cam's First Blog Entry :)

Hello! I'm finally getting around to posting a bit of new info for anyone interested in getting the latest poop (and there is a LOT of that) on Cameron :)

Born: September 10, 2007
9 lbs 9.7 oz 22" long

Thank you to Moray in Scotland for giving us this idea! We've been following his blog on his son, Calum, and their milestones. It seemed like a good way to keep all the family and friends up-to-date on Cameron, since we don't seem to get to the phone as quickly as we did before he was born (hard to change a diaper and answer the phone at the same time!).
