Cam's 18 month checkup

All went well at Cam's 18 month checkup today. Nothing major to report!

Stats
30.1 lbs / 91% (he basically hasn't gained any weight the last few months, although he's been eating like a horse, he's a lot more active so burns it all off)
35" tall / 98%
20" head circumference / 98% (his head hasn't grown since the last visit, but it was off the charts before now, so its nice to be ON the charts, finally!)

Update on Sickee

Cam's on the mend; just like the doc said the fever lasted 72 hours before it broke. We've kept Cam on the Mortrin for now and will stop it once he's stayed cool for at least 6 hours. His appetite is off but we're all heading back to normal. Woohoo!!

ps
a few stats from the doc's office on Friday:
30.5lbs
34.5" tall

New Stats!

Cam saw the doc today for his 15 month check up and here are the stats:

29lbs 4oz 93%
33.75" tall 98%
20" head circumference 99%

Apparently when Cam is 2 years old, we can have the doc do some type of measurement with one of his leg bones and that will get us an estimate of how tall Cam will be as an adult. I don't know how accurate that is, but we're still hoping Cam will hit at least 6' or taller :) So petty, I know, but I can't help myself! :) We'll love him no matter what his height, don't worry.

Quick update

Very sorry for the lack of posts: we've had a little rough spot sleeping-wise over here and I'm behind in life in general. Got some great new photos and video; I'll get to it over this holiday weekend :)

Cam has been waking up earlier and earlier the last week or so; since last Thursday he's been waking up at 4am and not going back to sleep. Made daycare tough last week b/c they are migrating him to a new room with older kids and a very set routine - no morning nap and everyone goes down for naps from 12:30 until whenever they wake up. Cam waking up at 4am has made it very hard for him to get to 12:30 and take a decent nap.

On top of that he's had some nasal congestion and a little cough for the last couple of weeks. After this past weekend, I decided to bring Cam to the docter b/c I was sure he had an ear infection (yes, I know he has tubes but all his rolling around and messed up sleeping reminded me so much of them!). Luckily I was wrong, but the doctor did diagnose him with a bronchial/sinus infection and he's on antibiotics for the next 5 days. Hopefully this will help the little guy feel better and sleep more comfortably. Fingers crossed!!

ps
Cam got weighed at the doc's office and tipped the scales at 29.5lbs. No height measurement, but K and I unofficially put a tap measure to him over the weekend and he was 32.5" tall. Photos/videos soon!!

Yay Friday!

The Caminator just loves grownup sun glasses - mommy's are the best to share b/c they are $10 at Kohl's to replace, unlike Daddy's. :) Baby sunglasses with the strap around the back of the head - eh, not so in love with those.

Cam's trip to the doc to get his shots went pretty well. He got 3 shots; did ok w/the first one then knew what was coming for the other two and protested mightily. He was ok pretty quickly once he realized he had these funky Garfield bandaids on his legs, but he was pretty sore for most of the rest of the day, so we gave him Tylenol (no Motrin allowed until after his tube surgery on Tuesday).

Overall a really nice day at home for all of us (he took a great morning nap and a fantastic lunchtime nap so not cranky at all) and it wasn't even too hot around here; mid-90s. His right molars seems to be taking a break as he's been chowing like there is no tomorrow; for all 3 meals yesterday he ate 10oz+ baby foods plus some bread, brie, banana, puffs and yogurt drops...a bit of a bottomless pit. :)

Our weekend is pretty much going to be trying to avoid germs and get Cam (mommy and daddy too) lots of good naps to prep for his tube surgery on Tuesday at 8am in Pismo Beach...not the funnest weekend but since Cam is currently germ-free, we're going to enjoy it!

One Year Stats
27lbs 10oz - 94%
32" - 97%
19.75" head circumference = 100% (off the charts)

(Doc has kept a close eye on the big head circumference, but since big heads run in daddy's family, she doesn't feel C needs a CAT scan)

ps
If Cam's lower lip looks a bit fat, its because on Thursday at daycare he was playing outside when the girls tried to bring him in for his nap and he ran away laughing - until he tripped over something and fell flat on his face. He was ok, just bit his lip. Its healing nicely and should be fine in a week or so.

Ding-dong fever update

Cam's fever is finally gone; it WAS a pretty long night. We just got back from Cam's "Well Baby" check (ha!), and Cam has herpangina, a viral throat infection. Doc thinks he's at the beginning of it, and it should run its course within 5-7 days. He's sleeping peacefully right now for his lunchtime nap.

The ENT still wants to do the pre-op tomorrow and decide then on the Friday surgery for the tubes. Because of the fever yesterday, Cam's not allowed back to daycare until he's 24 hrs fever-free, which would be tomorrow. We'll probably keep him home since he sleeps so much better here and daycare is obviously just a damn germ-fest....ANOTHER sickness he has gotten from there (argh!!). If the ENT decides tomorrow to do the surgery Friday, we'll probably keep Cam home from daycare the rest of the week; we think he'll recouperate faster at home.

One Year Stats
27lbs 10oz
32"
19 3/4" head circumference

I'll add the percentages later - we forgot that paperwork at the doc's office.

Happy Monday :)

We had a great weekend down here in Paso; on Saturday we took Cam over to Barney Schwartz Park to play on the swings and also take a walk up to the pond. It was windy as all heck but we all had a good time, plus mommy and daddy got a bit of exercise!

Sunday we spent the afternoon with Uncle Steve, Auntie Mary Ann and cousin Loretta. Had a great time and FABULOUS dinner (thanks again!), plus Cam had fun hanging out with everyone; Uncle Steve had him giggling and Cam loved playing Super-Baby with Auntie MA. Cousin Loretta helped him with his dinner, which was great.

Somehow we managed to not take any photos this weekend - go figure! We'll catch up this week. Oh; Cam's ear infection hasn't cleared up and we were back at the Doc's office today. He's back on the antibiotics (different strength and dosage than before) and hopefully we'll get this cleared up. If he gets another ear infection within the next 4-6 weeks we'll go to see a specialist.

Quick 9 month stats: (a week early but since we were at the Doc's today)
Weight: 25lb 8oz / 96th percentile
Length: 30" / 95
th percentile
Head: 19.25" / 99th percentile

Still a big kid! He'll easily hit the one-year-goal of tripling his weight and adding 10" to his height if we keep going this way.

No sickees here!

We had our followup visit to make sure Cam's ears were all better: Dr. N gave him a 9 in his left ear (the one that was really bad) and a 10 in his right - woohoo! Still can't say the cod liver oil is helping for sure but it certainly doesn't seem to be hurting. We'll keep giving it to him until we hit summer.

Cam finally got his 6 month shots (at 7-1/2 months) and did great with the first 2, only getting really upset with the last one in the leg.
His weight came in at 23lb 3oz (he definitely gained back what he lost when he was so sick in March) and length is 29.5".
No idea on percentiles, we're guessing high 90s. Still our giant baby! :)

A teaspoon of ... cod liver oil?

We had our followup appointment today with Dr. Nave. Cam is better, but not 100%. He's gained some of the weight back: 20lbs 4oz on March 20 to 21lbs 3oz today. His ears are better too: the right one is an 8 out of 10, the left was 6.5. No shots until those are better.

As none of us want Cam back on antibiotics, we are going to try the old school remedy of a teaspoon of cod liver oil a day and go back on April 22. Apparently cod liver oil tastes better these days than when we were kids - I guess we'll be finding out soon! Fingers crossed by then everything is cleared up and we're healthy again!! Cam is home with us today, so we'll try to have some Kodak moments when he wakes up from his lunchtime nap :)

Trio of sickees continued - Cam's 6 month checkup

Cam had his 6 month checkup today - weight is 20.5 lbs, length is 28.25" and his head is 18.5" around. Still in the 98th percentile except for his weight (88th), but we (us and the Dr.) suspect the ear infection Dr. Nave found in Cam's left ear today for the slight weight gain. Turns out all the rolling around he was doing before his naps was b/c he was so uncomfortable, not b/c he was trying to stay awake, as we thought :(

Dr. N said that it was better to have let the cold he's had run its course instead of rushing him in to see her sooner as the ear infection wouldn't have developed yet to be caught. She said she's missed ear infections in her own kids as they can be hard to diagnose (very small consolation). Cam was a champ today, and did pretty well with the ear check until the last few moments, when it probably hurt that she was poking around in there. He's going on antibiotics and ear drops, and his 6 month shots are rescheduled for April 1. He's still in good spirits, so this bug didn't knock him down :) Frickin' daycare....its a blessing and a curse!

Wash your hands and stay healthy! We love ya!

"Solids" - day 2

"Solids" is used loosely here; this rice cereal is still pretty runny! Here is Cam realizing that trying to feed himself doesn't make it taste any better :) Most of the rice cereal still ended up on his chin but he did eat two half spoonfuls, yum yum. He'll be chowing on steak any day now :)

ps
Cam's latest stats for his 5 month birthday: 20lbs and 28" long/tall. He's only 7 months short of being able to be turned around in his carseat; he's got the right weight, though!

4 month checkup - awesome!

We saw Dr. Nave this morning and Cam is doing great. 19lbs, 26.5" long (but we think the nurse was being lazy b/c she just laid him on the measuring guide and didn't stretch him out. We think he's closer to 27"+). Still in the 98th percentile for everything :) He got 4 more shots - boosters of the last batch - and didn't cry for the first two in his right leg but did not like the two in his left leg. He probably knew what was coming and protested. Overall, he did fantastic and is now home resting :)

2 month checkup: 98th percentile :)

Cameron had his 2 month checkup today with Dr. Nave and is continuing to grow leaps and bounds. 15lb 14oz (our scale at home was pretty close) and 25" long. Overall in the 98th percentile for everything. This again explains why he doesn't fit into all the cute clothes his Grandma Ruthie on the east coast just got him :) Our giant, not-quite-2-month-old baby is already in clothing for 6 month olds, lol.

He did have to get 4 (!!!) shots and that went as well as could be expected; no photos of THAT momentous occasion (it was horrible to watch; poor little guy just shrieked).

He's ok now, taking a late afternoon nap while he waits for mom to stop working and play with him :)

4 week checkup; a-ok!

We met with our new pediatrican, Dr. Nave, in Templeton (only 10 minutes from the house, much closer than mom's HMO up in San Jose) today for Cam's 4 week checkup. It went pretty well; Cam didn't like being naked in the cold room to get weighed but once he got re-dressed he did great. Cam's weight gain was awesome: 13lb 7 ounces. Since he lost 11 ounces the first day he was born, he regained that, plus almost 4lbs on his birth weight in 4 weeks! Totally explained why he didn't fit into newborn clothing anymore. His length increased almost 2" to 23-3/4". Both Kevin and I are hoping he'll eventually be a tall guy.

Four Week Old Stats
13lb 7oz

Kevin's sister-in-law saw Dr. Nave at a St. Rose event (their kids both attend this school) and mentioned Cam was a new client; at first Dr. Nave didn't know who she was talking about but then she realized MA was talking about "the big baby" she'd seen that week :)

Cam's First Blog Entry :)

Hello! I'm finally getting around to posting a bit of new info for anyone interested in getting the latest poop (and there is a LOT of that) on Cameron :)

Born: September 10, 2007
9 lbs 9.7 oz 22" long

Thank you to Moray in Scotland for giving us this idea! We've been following his blog on his son, Calum, and their milestones. It seemed like a good way to keep all the family and friends up-to-date on Cameron, since we don't seem to get to the phone as quickly as we did before he was born (hard to change a diaper and answer the phone at the same time!).
