We had a bunch of apples that were just begging to be turned into an apple pie. Since it was a rainy, icky day, it seemed like a fun thing to do.
Cam was a big help; he climbed up on the stepstool and helped to stir the apples to mix them in with the cinanamon, nutmeg and sugar. Won't be too long now before we can get him helping with making dinner for the family!

don't you just love Cam's "Blue Steel" Zoolander look in the photo on the right? Our boy will be a model! JK!

Cam in the pantry
Cam still loves the pantry - its more fun than ALL of his toys (except for maybe the wagon). He's getting pretty tall, however, and reaching up to grab whatever he can get his hands on. Including all the glass items :) We keep moving them up, but he's now taught himself to step *up* into the pantry (and also back himself down!) to reach higher.
So the pantry will probably be off-limits soon, and we won't get these great, crazy shots of Cam trying to eat icing or lemon extract. But we also won't have to worry about him dropping the pasta sauce and cutting himself! A good trade-off :)

Cam and the puffs
Everyone once in a while, when Cam gets home from daycare, he's ravenous. Today was one of those days. He sat in daddy's lap and proceeded to eat *a lot* of puffs (ugh - not organic). He had a blast, though. Totally figured out how to get the top off, put his hand into the container and pull out a bunch of puffs that he would then stuff into his mouth and finally closing the container. And then doing it all over again :)

7 months old (!!!)
The Camster turned 7 months old today, which just seems kinda crazy as he was just born! He's doing great; hitting all his milestones and then some.
We still need to get our 6 month shots, provided his ears are 100% when we see the doc April 22. We'll get a new weight then too, because this is a kid who likes his solids! We're moving on to the Stage 2 stuff now, and this weekend we are going to try introducing some chicken, but in the Earth's Best Organic baby food; mommy isn't ready for him to bite into a chicken leg! So far he loves mango, applesauce, peas, sweet potatos and carrots, carrots, carrots :) He's ok with bananas. We're giving up on the peaches until they come into season and I can make some up fresh here; the Gerber peaches smell pretty gross, like an old leather shoe. He's not sure about oatmeal, either.
Tomorrow we start trying a sippy cup! (apparently when you introduce protein, he needs to be able to drink some water or juice too).

Mango Man :)
We had gotten a little off track with Cam's solids when he was sick a couple of weeks ago and having been working our way back on to the track. Last night I cooked up some mango (which he tried before and loved) and he CHOWED. So great to have his appetite back!
Now that he's got a couple of teeth coming in on the bottom, his new favourite thing to do is to bite down on the spoon as I'm trying to bring it out of his mouth. He thinks is the funniest thing in the world; I'll post some video below of Mr. Funny Mango-Man!
Of course, ignore the fact he's trying to put the end that doesn't have any food into his mouth :) Never said he was a genius - just a cutie-pie!!

The first taste of applesauce
So far Cam seems to be a veggie man :) Later on this week we'll try bananas and hopefully he'll like those!
Both Cam and I have been sick since Friday with your basic cold and cough. I'm lousy at taking temps, but according to my palm, neither of us have fevers :)
Cam's cough was disconcerting, but a trick we found online (rubbing Vicks on the bottom of his feet, then slipping on socks under his jammies) has helped him quite a bit. We did try the steamy-bathroom yesterday, and that provided some relief too. He's on the mend! That's cold #3 for both of us since starting daycare.....3 in 6 weeks!!!! As long as Cam ends up with awesome immunity when he gets a little older, it will be worth it...

Carrots, carrots, carrots :)
After almost 2 weeks of rice cereal, we decided to try some carrots with Cam. He loves them! Quite unlike the pears we had tried earlier in the week - he would eat them, but totally made a "yucky" face. Now when the spoon of carrots is approaching him, he starts to grin :)

"Solids" - day 2
"Solids" is used loosely here; this rice cereal is still pretty runny! Here is Cam realizing that trying to feed himself doesn't make it taste any better :) Most of the rice cereal still ended up on his chin but he did eat two half spoonfuls, yum yum. He'll be chowing on steak any day now :)
ps
Cam's latest stats for his 5 month birthday: 20lbs and 28" long/tall. He's only 7 months short of being able to be turned around in his carseat; he's got the right weight, though!

How exactly do you do this?
Cam turned 5 months yesterday and we decided to start trying some solids with him, since he's been doing really well hanging out in his high chair. Solids is a bit of a misnomer, as the rice ceral was anything but - the first try mommy had it waaaaaaay too runny. But we added more rice, so that helped. As you can tell from the look on his face he's not too impressed with it, although he did try to grab the spoon the entire time :)
We *think* Cam swallowed some, but its hard to tell. Especially when mommy totally missed his mouth and tried to feed him through his nose. Oops! That mouth is a moving target. Hopefully we'll do better tomorrow.

Checkin' out the highchair
Grammie and Grampie very kindly gave Cam his first highchair for Christmas, and we decided to get it out and let him spend a little time in it for a few weeks before we start trying to feed him in it.
When I first got it out of the box, I thought the 5-point harness was a silly idea but thank goodness it was there b/c it kept the Caminator upright!
For such a big kid he looks so small in the highchair!!
